What are the best LTE tablets and what are they meant for? In our modern society, we couldn’t imagine a day passing by without any technologies involved. Many people like to listen to music, watch videos, play games, or even work daily. Today most of these actions can only be done while being online. And what if your in an area that has no Free Wi-fi? You would just sigh and listen to the birds, and of course, it is not a bad option. But with LTE (short for ”Long Term Evolution”) tablets you can listen or see your favorite things everywhere.
To ensure LTE you just need two minor things. A tablet with a SIM card slot and a service plan by your operator. And remember the LTE option is always the most expensive one. The road to finding a good LTE tablet isn’t so easy, it’s time-consuming. So our team has made a list of the best LTE tablets in 2020.
Let’s review tablets with 4G LTE support and room for a SIM card.
1. Apple iPad Pro 2021 (Wi-Fi + Cellular)
With 5G connectivity being an exclusive feature for the 2021 launched iPad Pro, this device is meant to be listed as one of the most promising tablets with sim card slots. Digging a bit inside the cellular connectivity, the 2021 iPad Pro features the iPhone 12 modem, i.e. Qualcomm X55. The modem bags three models, including a universal 4G LTE band, a sub-6GHz 5G, and the C-band. To learn more about the bands, look at the official documentation here.
Using a Sim Card in your iPad Pro 2021 is a straightforward task. All that you need to do is look for the SIM tray on the lower right side of the device, use an ejector tool to access the tray, insert the nano-SIM, and you’re good to go. Although the Wi-Fi+Cellular model costs a bit more than the standard variant, the device in focus is worth every money as it will make sure your tablet runs high-speed internet all the time.
Build
Whether we talk about the cellular or the Wi-Fi variant of iPad 2021, the build is similar. The 11-inch model has dimensions of 9.75 x 7.03 x 0.23 in and weighs somewhere around 1.03 lbs. On the other hand, weighing 1.50 lbs, the 12.9-inch variant has dimensions of 11.05 by 8.46 by 0.25 inches. With glass on the front side and aluminum on the back, the device looks premium and feels durable. Moreover, with an aluminum frame along the edges and a scratch-resistant coating on the glass, the 2021 iPad Pro seems to bear promising protection against knocks and scrapes. But still, we recommend you get an effective protective case for the future run.
Display
With the 12.9-inch iPad, you get to see one of the best display’s ever used in tablets. It features a Liquid Retina XDR display producing pictures at 2732×2048-pixel resolution. In addition, with a contrast ratio of 10,00,000:1, 120 Hz refresh rate and a maximum brightness of 600 nits, get ready for some detailed next-level viewing experiences. Although the 11-inch model features the same liquid retina IPS display, thanks to the 120 Hz refresh rate and 600 nits brightness, the display is well capable of producing solid pictures.
Battery
iPad Pro has always been known for providing a decent battery life. The scenes are no different with the 2021 launched model. Home to 28.65 watt-hours and 40.88 watt-hours rechargeable lithium polymer battery, both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch (Wi-Fi+ Cellular) models can last around 9 to 10 hours on a single charge. The best thing, though, with the 18W charger, you’ll be able to get your device fully loaded really quick.
Audio system and cameras
Similar to other sections, the 2021 iPad Pro doesn’t disappoint in the audio department as well. With built-in four audio speakers, you can expect high-quality sound justifying details in every portion of the wave.
Home to an ultra-wide True-Depth front-facing camera, the iPad Pro 2021 is excellent in this department. The front camera bags a wider 122-degree field of view which can be really convenient for specific situations. Moving on to the rear end, you get to see a 12MP camera with 5times digital zoom and 2 times optical zoom out. Video recording is also seamless with this year’s iPad Pro. The camera setup is capable of shooting even 4K videos at 24 fps, 25 or 30 fps and even 60 fps.
One of the striking features of the 2021 iPad Pro is the “Center Stage.” This element ensures you stick to the middle of the frame during a video call session.
Storage and Memory
With the iPad Pro 2021, you’ve more options to load up the storage of your device. Along with the 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB options, which is something familiar from last year variant, the 2021 model enables you to upgrade your device with 2TB of storage. Talking about RAM, backing up the performance of your device will be a more manageable task this time around, thanks to the 8 GB and 16 GB sticks available.
Processor and performance
Undoubtedly one of the best things about the 2021 iPad Pro, which has been in talks for all the good reasons, is the M1 Silicon chip. No matter if you’re looking to deal with some general tasks or play high-end games, this octa-core processor (with 8-core Apple GPU) will make sure everything from preparing to rendering is flawless. When we look at some numbers, the single and multi-core tests producing the respective Geekbench scores of 1,212 points and 7,207 points speak for the performance that the iPad Pro 2021 is built to deliver.

2. Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Best Android Tablet with LTE
S7 & S7+ are the best Android tablets out there to date. If you’re buying it with LTE you can make phone calls with it and receive them as well, of course. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have an earpiece, so you will have to get a pair of headphones with them in order to make some calls.
Build
This newest Samsung Tablet S7 has dimensions of 9.99 x 6.51 x 0.25 in and it weighs 1.1lbs. It’s not large, often working you will feel like you need a bigger one, but on the other hand, when you’re relaxing and browsing media on your couch you will want it to be a bit smaller, even. If you feel like you might need a bigger one, Samsung has a solution – S7+.
Display
It has 1600×2560 pixels resolutions with 16:10 ratio. (~274ppi density) the S7 model has an LTPS IPS LCD display, but the S7+ model has AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, when you hold them right next to each other – there is a difference. The AMOLED screen is just way better, more vivid colors, but we can’t say anything bad about the S7 screen, it’s still magnificant.
Battery
S7 carries a great battery – Li-Po 8000 mAh it’s non-removable as for most of the tablets. It can last up to 9.5-hours if you’re on power-saving mode. On average we experience 7-hours of battery life, which includes watching HD videos, full brightness, etc. From 0 to 100 it charged in~ 2.5-hours.
Audio system and cameras
It carries excellent speakers and audio quality. It also doesn’t support a 3.5mm headjack. Like most of the tablets, we don’t consider this as a con, the fewer wires the better, most of the headphones and earbuds comes with Bluetooth anyways. Quad-speaker setup pumps out excellent sound and very loud audio. If you’re watching a movie or having a video call, believe us, you will need around 50% of the volume. Anything over that is just overkill.
It’s packed with a 13MP camera at the back and a 5MP camera at the front. You can make pretty amazing photos with this device, it’s not like a professional camera, but if you want to play the Instagram game, it’s good enough. It’s not about the device, it’s about the person who’s taking the photos. A good photographer can make excellent work with an old camera as well.
Storage
RAM depends on the storage you can get 6GB RAM with 128GB tablet and you can get 8GB of RAM with 256GB, also 512GB with 8GB RAM. We were multitasking heavily on the device, never really felt like we would need more RAM for the device (6GB). Perhaps if you’re working on more high-demanding apps like Photoshop those 8GB might come in handy.
Processor and performance
This tablet uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865+ chipset. Currently, it is one of the best mobile and tablet chipsets available on the market. It has an Octa-core (Kryo 585) CPU and Adreno 650 GPU. You can find the same chip in Galaxy Note 20. It also supports 5g(only the S7+ model). During our testing, the tablet never slowed down. We could easily switch from Dex mode to the standard more, without any lags. If you’re a heavy multi-tasker, you won’t feel any interruptions with the Galaxy Tab S7.
Specification 🔧
- OS: Android 10, One UI 2.5
- Processor: Octa-core (1×3.09 GHz Kryo 585 & 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 585 & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 585
- Storage: 128GB up to 512 GB
- RAM: 6GB – 8 GB
- Camera: Back – 13 MP, f/2.0, Front – 5 MP, f/2.2
- Graphics: Qualcomm SM8250 Snapdragon 865+
- Display: 11-inch, 12.4-inch
- Resolution: 1600 x 2560, 1752 x 2800
- Size: 9.99 x 6.51 x 0.25 in, 11.22 x 7.28 x 0.22 in
- Weight: 1.1lbs, 1.27lbs
- Port: USB-C port

3. Apple iPad Air 4
The big surprise from Apple at the end of 2020. The new Apple iPad Air 4. It surprised the whole tech world with its new A14 Bionic processor, which is something everyone talks about assuming, this is something they will use for the upcoming Macbooks. You can also use the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil 2 with this device. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to make phone calls or receive them with Apple iPad Air 4th Gen.
Build
The iPad Air 3 is a medium-budget tablet and has dimensions of 9.75 x 7.03 x 0.24 inches and weighs 1.01 pounds. It feels just like the iPad Pro and even looks like it but it is a bit lighter.
Display
The Retina display is 10.9 inches big and has a resolution of 1640×2360 pixels (~264 ppi density). This screen also is laminated which means that there is almost no gap between the thinner glass on top and the LCD panel underneath. This feature makes the colors really pop and gives you deep blacks. Using this tablet outside will be awesome because it is very bright. With this device watching movies and reading books won’t be a problem.
Battery
Most of the iPad these days have the same battery life – 10 hours. iPad Air also has this feature. You can use it for up to 10 hours, Of course, more demanding apps and constant usage of Wi-Fi or cellular data will drain its battery faster. With the Lightning cable that comes with it, you can charge your device from 0% to 100% in two and a half hours. Which is pretty decent.
Audio systems and camera
With no surprise, there is no 3.5mm jack, which makes sense for the newest tablets. The speakers sound incredible, you can enjoy music on it, it’s loud enough and clear of course. You can even feel the bass.
Apple Air has two cameras 12MP camera at the back and 7MP at the front for video calls and selfies. You can shoot a video at up to 4K resolution and 60 FPS. There’s no flash and there’s no LiDAR sensor like iPad Pro model.
Storage
There’s no additional card slot, no surprise there and you can choose between a 64GB device and a 256GB device. In case it’s not enough, there’s always cloud storage services such as iCloud.
Processor and performance
There’s quite a boost on this new Air model – A14 Bionic processor. It has made the tablet faster by 40% (processing tasks). That’s an incredible upgrade. The new chip has made a lot of buzzes. Apple has made a competition to its own product – iPad Pro. It can handle high-demanding apps. While reviewing we didn’t get interrupted by a single lag. The tabled dealt with multi-tasking well. Unlike its predecessor – iPad Air 3. Overall performance – better than expected.
Specifications 🔧
- OS: iOS
- Processor: A14 Bionic processor
- Storage: 64GB, 256GB
- RAM: 4 GB
- Camera: back – 12 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/3″, 1.22µm, dual pixel PDAF, front – 7 MP, f/2.0, 31mm
- Display: 10.9-inches
- Resolution:1640 x 2360 pixels

- Ports: USB Type-C + magnetic connector
- Battery: Up to 10-hours
- Connectivity: WiFi & LTE
- Phone calls: No
It’s not Apple iPad Air, it’s not Apple iPad Pro, it’s just Apple iPad. That’s their least expensive tablet, currently. For overall use, it has incredible performance. You can’t make phone calls with the new Apple iPad 8th Generation. You can use the cellular data to make video calls through Facetime, Zoom, Messenger, Skype, etc.
Build
Let’s talk about it’s built. iPad 8th has dimensions of 9.87 x 6.85 x 0.30 inches and it weighs 1.08lbs. We know it’s their least expensive tablet, but when holding it in hand it still has that premium tablet feel. It’s a really firm and well put together tablet.
Display
Retina IPS LCD display with 10.2 inches screen. 1620 x 2160 resolution. The screen is not laminated. It will feel a bit more glossy comparing to Air or Pro and reflective. The fact that it’s not laminated means, that there’s a small gap between the glass and the display. Which gives the illusion that there’s a small lag while you’re scrolling with your finger. You can feel it the most when you’re using Apple Pencil.
Battery
Most of the iPad these days have the same battery life – 10 hours. iPad 8th isn’t any different. It holds up to 10 hours average use time is around ~7 hours.
Audio systems and camera
It carries two speakers at the bottom, just like Air. Unlike iPad Pro. The sound is decent. 3.5mm headphone jack remains.
iPad 8th has two cameras, just like any other tablet. The main or the back camera – 8MP and front camera 1.2 MP. Don’t let the MP scare you away. You can still have video calls and video meetings with this device, the picture isn’t too bad.
Storage
No card slot, of course. 32 GB model comes with 3GB RAM and 128GB model comes also with 3GB RAM if you need more, ram you should look at Air or Pro model. While multi-tasking the tablet doesn’t slow down.
Processor and performance
The major update from the previous generation iPad – processor. That’s the major update. It has gone from the A10 Fusion processor to the A12 Bionic processor.
It’s a great budget-friendly tablet with an LTE option. It’s great for users who are looking for mid-range tablets for – school, notes, emails, web browsing, news, videos, movies, etc.
Specifications 🔧
- OS: iOS
- Processor: A12 Bionic processor

5. Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 lite
Build
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is a budget tablet that has dimensions of 9.63 x 6.07 x 0.28 inches. This tablet has a metal outer casing that makes it feel more luxurious. But this material makes the tablet a little bit heavier than expected – 1.03 pounds. It comes in three colors – oxford gray, angora blue, chiffon rose – all the colors may not be available in every region. The nice thing with this device is that there is an included S Pen stylus. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6, it doesn’t have a slot to store the pen. On this tablet, you can attach it magnetically to the right side of this device.
Display
This tablet has a 10.4-inch LCD with a resolution of 1200 x 2000 pixels. It differs from the non-Lite tablet with the lack of a higher-quality AMOLED display. But the screen quality is nice and bright. You can easily use it even when you’re outside. The colors are popping but sometimes you can see them as washed out. Because of the big screen, decent quality, and good brightness, this can be a great device to watch movies or read books.
Battery
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite has a 7040 mAh battery that you be needing to worry about frequent charging. This tablet can last a whole day while watching videos, listening to music, reading, or doing work. To charge this tablet you have to use a USB-C charging cable. But with the included 15W charger it can take pretty long to fully charge.
Audio system and camera
You will find two speakers on the top and the bottom, they generate an amazing stereo effect. They give a decent amount of bass and can play music very loudly. But there is the other side to this feature. When playing on the loudest volumes it does seem to be crackling up a bit. To attach an earphone or headphone assure that they are compatible with the 3.5 mm jack.
This tablet has two cameras, the main one is located on the back and has a resolution of 8 MP. The pictures that are taken by this camera come out a little dim and sometimes even a bit grainy. The front camera has 5 MP, it is totally suitable for taking selfies and making video calls. But you probably won’t take as many pictures with this tablet as you would with your phone.
Storage
This device has two storage options – 64GB and 128GB. Both come with 4GB of RAM. But don’t worry, if you want to expand your internal storage you can always add a MicroSD card that can go up to 512GB.
Processor and performance
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite has the Exynos 9611 processor. And performance vise it’s just as what you would expect for a budget tablet. There aren’t any big lags or freezes, but you can see a slight delay while switching between apps, opening them, and scrolling up and down. This tablet is mainly suitable for doing low-demand tasks. Some high-graphic games can’t be even run on this device, but some can be started on the lowest graphics. Overall this is a tablet for entertainment – watching movies and listening to music, and the biggest pro is that you can take it everywhere with the LTE availability. So these features allow this tablet to enter the list of the best LTE tablets.
Specifications 🔧
- OS: Android 10
- Processor: octa-core 1.7 GHz Samsung Exynos 9611 processor
- Storage: 64 GB/ 128 GB

- Display: 10.4 inches
- Resolution: 2000 x 1200
- Size: 243 x 159 x 7.1mm
- Weight: 1.02lbs|459g
- Battery: Up to 13 hours
- Connectivity: WiFi & LTE

6. Microsoft Surface Go 2
If you’re planning to make phone calls with Microsoft Surface Go 2 – you won’t be able to. Neither you will be able to receive them. The connection to cellular is for data only. Of course, you can make calls and even video calls through Zoom, Skype, Hangout, etc.
Build
The design of this tablet is very similar to Surface Go, this means that it’s a slightly smaller and lighter version of the Surface Pro. The Surface Go 2 has dimensions of 9.65 x 6.9 x 0.33 inches and weighs 1.2 pounds, and is built mostly out of aluminum. This device has only one color option – platinum. Judging by its affordable price you get a very nice build quality.
Display
This device has a bit bigger display than its predecessor Surface Go. This screen has a resolution of 1920 x 1280 pixels. This feature delivers high quality, amazing color contrast, and much more. This tablet has 220 PPI of brightness. Of course, this doesn’t come even close to the Apple iPad Pro but it’s suitable for usage outdoors.
Battery
This tablet has a standard battery that can last up to 10 hours. So on long flights, it will last with ease. To recharge the tablet you will need just a bit over 1 hour. And to charge it you will need to find a USB-C type charger.
Audio system and cameras
On this tablet, there are 2W Dolby Audio speakers. They aren’t the best but deliver quite an amazing journey. But to assure you a better experience we would recommend you to buy a 3.5 mm headphone or earphone set.
There are two cameras on this tablet. The rear camera has 8 MP and Microsoft has installed a document scanning mode. With this, you can easily port your documents everywhere without the extra weight. The front camera has 5 MP. But what about the actual camera quality? They deliver clear and detailed outcomes, so video calls won’t be a problem.
Storage
There are two internal storage options on this tablet. The first one is 64 GB of internal memory and 4 GB of RAM, and the second is 128 GB of internal memory and 8 GB of RAM. Of course, these two options are sold at different prices. There also is a third option that differs from others. There is an LTE version with 256 GB of internal memory and 8 GB of RAM. This is the most expensive option.
Processor and performance
The Core M3 processor can’t match the performance the other Surface tablets deliver. But judging by its good price it’s okay. Overall this tablet has the downside of slow performance. For example, Adobe Lightroom took 20 seconds to open while in iPad Air it took only 2. This tablet can though be easily used for surfing the internet, watching movies, and doing some work. And with the amazing LTE option, you can take your work everywhere. These features and assure this tablet a spot in the list of the best LTE tablets.

7. Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 #Best-Budget-LTE-Tablet
It’s one of the rare budget-class tablets that we can truly recommend. Of course, it can’t compete with premium devices such as Galaxy Tab S7 or iPad Pro, but if you’re looking for a mid-range solid tablet to surf the web and other entertainment – it’s worth it. If you’re wondering if you can make phone calls from Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 with LTE – then yes, you can. It’s a very solid budget-class tablet from Samsung that was released in 2020, October.
Build
Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 has dimensions of 9.75 x 6.20 x 0.28 inches, weighs 1.05lbs about the same as other devices in this category. It has more of a premium built unlike other plastic tablets (e.g. Amazon fire).
Display
This screen has a resolution of 1200 x 2000 pixels. The display could be better, if you lower your brightness below 50 percent the viewing angles become considerably narrower.
Battery
It users Li-Po 7040 mAh battery, which is non-removable. It can last up to 13 hours on average it lasts around 9 hours.
Audio system and cameras
Overall the audio is underwhelming if you compare it to premium devices, but if we keep in mind that it’s a budget-class tablet the audio is decent. It’s enough to watch movies and hear clearly everything, as well as use it for video calls and understand what the person is saying on the other side, but it’s not enough really to enjoy music.
There are two cameras on this tablet. The rear camera has 8 MP and 5MP at the front, which also is responsible for unlocking your tablet, there’s no fingerprint scanner.
Storage
It carries 3GB of RAM and two options for storage – 32 GB or 64 GB. There’s an option to add a memory card – microSDXC. Which might come in handy. You can transfer some of the data to the card to make the tablet faster.
Processor and performance
The Tab A7 uses a Snapdragon 662 chipset with 3GB of RAM. Compared to some premium devices it’s slower. You can notice the lag. There’s a small delay when you search for apps or switch between apps, but we’re talking here about milliseconds.
For someone who’s looking for a basic tablet to browse the web, Gmail, talk with friends, watch videos – Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 will be satisfying.

Lenovo with its great battery life and SIM Card slot. When we mention this tablet is our blog we always remind our readers how premium this tablet feels. It costs ~$100, but when holding it in hand feels like a $500 tablet.
Build
It’s very solid and feels like a premium tablet with dimensions of 7.84 x 4.80 x 0.32 in and weighs only 0.67lbs, which makes it the lightest LTE tablet.
Display
It has a 1280×800 display with a 16:10 ratio and ~ 189ppi density.
Battery
Li-Po 5000mAh battery that lasts up to 23 hours, which is impressive. You can use it for days and forget about the charging. The average use time is around 14-hours.
Audio system and cameras
Dual Dolby Atmos speakers. We have to admit that the audio is sluggish, you won’t be enjoying any music on this device. There is an audio jack at the top of the device. It’s not terrible, it’s just not enjoyable, getting some speakers might fix this issue. On the calls, you can understand the other side clearly, no issue with that.
Storage
There are two options 2 GB and 16 GB storage or 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage. There is a dedicated slot for a memory card – microSDXC.
Processor and performance
Equipped with a 2-GHz MediaTek A22 processor. With low-demanding apps, we had no issues, but trying to run a bit more high-demanding ones we often experience a crash. We don’t recommend it for multi-tasking. The device can handle simple tasks and low-demanding apps without any issues, if you plan to use it for more, you should pick another tablet from the list.
We were able to play a couple of rounds of Among Us (no lags whatsoever) but we weren’t able o play PUBG, it’s just not designed for high-demanding games.

However, for some reason, if you like sticking to the Android OS and seek a tablet solution for getting in touch with convenient phone calls, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 needs to have your attention, but our first choice of course is Apple iPad Pro due to the mentioned reasons above.
Huawei and LTE Tablets – Not recommended
You might be wondering why we had removed Huawei tablets from the list. Huawei makes a lot of LTE tablets and we have reviewed many of them, but we had to remove many of them due to the trade war between the USA and China. They are good tablets from a technical point of view. But the trade war has made those tablets not worth having. You can’t access Google Play Store from Huawei devices no longer. Meaning you won’t be able to use Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive, and other Google products.
Of course, there are some workarounds, but those are only workarounds, that might not work forever. We don’t recommend getting a Huawei device.
LTE Tablets most common Q&A
There are many questions and misunderstandings when it comes to tablets, let’s take a look at the most common ones, and let’s make things a bit clearer.
Can LTE tablets also connect to WiFi?
Yes, of course, you will be able to connect to WiFi. LTE is just an extra feature if you don’t have access to WiFi.
Difference between WiFi & LTE tablet?
If you have a WiFi tablet you will be able to connect to the internet using WiFi only. On the other hand, if your tablet supports LTE you will be able to connect it to the web using cellular connections, through SIM Card. Just like you have access to the internet through your phone, now you can access it through your tablet.
Can LTE tablets make phone calls?
Depends on the tablet. Most Android tablets support this feature. If your card is inserted and cellular data is active you should be able to make phone calls if your tablet supports it. Apple doesn’t support this feature as well as Microsoft. You can view the tablets above, that supports this feature.
Do I need LTE on a tablet?
There’s quite a difference in the price between WiFi and WiFi + Cellular tablet. If you don’t have the access to WiFi, the LTE tablet comes in handy. If you plan to use your tablet outside home and work and you’re the type of person who’s always on the go we recommend an LTE tablet.
