Conclusion

The iPhone has had native Battery Health for a long time, but iPad users haven’t had the same edge. iPad users have access to alternative approaches to third-party solutions to determine their iPad battery health.

Luckily, several free and useful applications are available on the market allowing users to quickly diagnose their iPad battery health. This guide will walk you through the process of how to check battery health on iPad and address all of your questions.

iPad Battery Health

There is no designated “battery health” feature on the iPad to give you an estimate of how long your battery will last. However, third-party apps like iMazing or coconutBattery can show you your battery stats and health.

Below we show you how to check iPad battery health through apps like iMazing and coconutBattery. Please note that you will require a Windows or Mac PC/laptop to use these apps and receive data about your iPad’s battery.

Checking iPad Battery Health with iMazing

The iMazing app is available for both Mac and Windows platforms. Follow the steps below to install the app and get your iPad battery health data.

How to use iMazing to check iPad battery health

  1. Download and install iMazing on your Mac or PC
  2. Connect your iPad to the device
  3. In the left panel, click your iPad
  4. Now, click the battery icon to see the stats of your iPad’s battery
  5. iMazing clearly shows the health of your iPad’s battery along with the percentage of the total original charge your iPad battery can still hold (should not be below 80%)
  6. It also shares additional info such as charge cycles, temperature, warnings, original design charge, current charge, and more

Checking iPad Battery Health with coconutBattery

Another great app to check your iPad’s battery health is coconutBattery. This app is only available for Mac users. Follow the steps below to use the app to check your iPad battery health.

How to use coconutBattery to check iPad battery health

  1. Install coconutBattery app on your Mac.
  2. Connect your iPad to the Mac.
  3. Open the coconutBattery app and click the first tab with your Mac’s battery health info.
  4. Now, click iOS Device to get access to your iPad battery health.
  5. coconutBattery shows current and historical data about the iPad’s battery, but the most critical parameters are Design Capacity and Full Charge Capacity.
  6. Design Capacity shows the maximum charge your iPad’s battery could hold when it was new (mAh), while the Full Charge Capacity shows you the maximum charge it could hold currently.
  7. You need to check the bar under Design Capacity. Look for the percentage, and if it is below 80%, you should think about getting a new battery for your iPad.
  8. Also, click the Battery Info button to get info about the brand of battery, manufacture date, and more.

Checking iPad Battery Health with 3UTools

The 3UTools app is limited to the Windows platform. Follow the steps below to install the app and get your iPad battery health data.

How to use 3UTools to check iPad battery health

  1. Install 3UTools on your Windows PC/laptop.
  2. Now, connect your iPad to the device.
  3. Unlock the iPad and tap Trust to let the app access your iPad freely.
  4. After getting permission, 3UTools will show vital info like Charge Times, which refers to how many times the iPad has been charged.
  5. You should now click on Details next to the Battery Life option to check info like Temperate, Manufacturer, Design Capacity, Actual Capacity, and other details.

iPad Battery Health: Why is it Important to Check

You should check the battery status of your iPad every few months.  Although the iPad battery typically lasts for two to three years at full capacity, some batteries expire sooner than others. If your iPad’s battery health is deteriorating, you should think about getting it replaced.

When it comes to your iPad’s battery life, it’s not just about how long you can go without recharging. For a single charge, the battery life is indicated in hours. Batteries are judged on how long they can go between full charges and full discharges before losing their ability to store a charge.

What to do if your iPad battery health is poor

When your iPad’s battery health hits a low, you have two options — either get the battery replaced or get a new iPad.

Battery Replacement

If your iPad’s battery starts to deteriorate while the device is under warranty, the cost of a new battery will be pretty low. Even if your iPad is out of warranty, you still have plenty of other battery replacement alternatives to choose from.

Buy New iPad

It’s probably the best option if you have an older iPad. Although getting the battery replaced will be a cheaper option, you should calculate the price difference. If the price difference is not too significant, getting a new iPad won’t be a bad decision either.
